midterm presentation layout

Drawings, images, photographs required for the midterm presentation:

-All previous joint drawings (gridded-diagrams, network diagrams, 3d digital photos of joint movement, sections, concept diagrams) if necessary redrawn

-documented research for moment, memory and time: collected images, quotes, Xeroxes…

-Printed Text describing the idea (min 50 words, font size min 20)

-time machine drawing

-Axonometric, oblique process drawing (this will be the main drawing, probably 2 or 3 18x18” sheets)

-section collages of Xeroxed joints in various scales 100, 200, 300%

-For demonstrating sequencing:
Photograph the Volume of Jointed Tales Cube as described:
(All photography to be taken against neutral black background)
1. As a Sequence that records each step in the disassembly of the volume as a pure object.
a. Camera, volume, and light source to remain stable
b. Remove pieces one at a time and capture each moment
c. Each moment should show the volume and the displaced piece along its vector
d. Assemble sequence in Photoshop as a continuous strip (see Muybridge for reference)

2. As a Sequence that records each step of the disassembly by the body.
a. Camera and light source remain stable
b. Record each moment as the body performs with the volume
c. Each moment should show the body with the volume and the displaced piece in hand (wear something neutral, ex. Black clothes)
d. Assemble sequence in Photoshop as a continuous strip (see Muybridge for reference)

3. As an indexed sequence
a. -Disassemble cube
b. -Space evenly and sequence appropriately
c. -Assemble in Photoshop as linear indexing of the modules (see tree diagram)

4. Scan (or scan photocopies) all faces of Volume of Jointed Tales Cube and Wood Word Joints
a. -Assemble as unfolded cube

Print images for review, if the images are acceptable you will submit a
disk with all work after the presentation. If the photos are not accepted, this will be redone.

Who:

Subject of this week is to construct COMBINATIONS of the 3 joints as moments in the cube in order to start the sequencing of Moment and Memory in Time mainly through model exploration.

What:

Re-write your text linking all your joints in a sequence- use your word joints as anchor for a tale – minimum 50 words
Re-asses the sequences of combinations based of your memory, moment research as a conceptual framework in a form of axonometric and oblique sketches.
Action/ Reaction Reveal/ Conceal Expectation/ Surprise

Construct COMBINATIONS of the joints: 1+2, 2+3, 3+1
Define their placement in the cube
Define the organizing logic/sequencing for the cube between COMBINATIONS

Continue drawing one drawing of combined axonometric (isometric, diametric, trimetric) and oblique projections. Use additional 18”x18” as needed
How:
Use only: 3 various size basswood sticks (thickness less than 1”) and 3 various size basswood sheets smaller thickness max ½”

Remember each drawing is an independent manifestation of your ideas.

Model making tips:
Measure twice before cutting,
Cut precisely
Use sharp saw, knives
Use sand paper often
Use a syringe to apply glue

tomorrow, i will be in studio earlier (around 12pm), since I am a guest critic at another studio presentation i will have to be gone from 4-6pm. It would be great if i can get to talk to some of you at that time. Please make a list and come earlier if you would like to ensure that i see you tomorrow.
